Sanctum House

Project Brief
Location: Dammam, Saudi Arabia Type: Private Residence Status: Under Construction Built Area: 750 SQM Year: 2026

Design Premise
A courtyard forms the heart of the house, creating a calm outdoor room around which family life unfolds. The architecture balances privacy and openness through layered spaces, while the perforated screen reinterprets the traditional mashrabiya to shape light, protect the interior, and establish a distinct architectural identity.
Environmental Strategy
The design responds to the climate through passive environmental principles. The courtyard promotes natural ventilation and introduces daylight deep into the plan, while the perforated screen filters western sunlight and reduces heat gain. Shaded outdoor spaces, controlled openings, and carefully positioned planting improve thermal comfort and create a comfortable living environment throughout the year.

Material & Light
Inspired by the traditional mashrabiya, the perforated screen is more than a façade element. It moderates western sunlight, protects privacy, and gives the house its architectural identity. Throughout the day, shifting light and shadow animate the surfaces, allowing climate and culture to shape the experience of everyday living.
